Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Evaluations

Compassionate, Comprehensive, and Clinically Sound ESA Evaluations

At Serenity Therapy Services, we provide comprehensive Emotional Support Animal (ESA) evaluations for individuals seeking documentation to support reasonable accommodation requests for housing, college residence halls, and other qualifying situations. Our evaluations are conducted by a licensed mental health professional and are based on current clinical standards and applicable laws.

An Emotional Support Animal letter is not automatically provided as part of the evaluation. The purpose of the evaluation is to determine whether an individual has a qualifying mental health condition that substantially impacts one or more major life activities and whether an emotional support animal is clinically appropriate to help alleviate symptoms. If these criteria are met, supporting documentation will be provided. Payment is for the professional evaluation and clinical assessment, not for the issuance of an ESA letter.

What to Expect

  1. Complete the online intake forms and questionnaires.

  2. Attend your scheduled clinical evaluation (telehealth or in person, if available).

  3. Receive a thorough clinical assessment and determination.

  4. If clinically appropriate, your ESA documentation will typically be completed within 3–5 business days.

Important Information

An Emotional Support Animal evaluation is a healthcare service—not simply a request for documentation. Clinical recommendations are based on professional judgment, ethical standards, and applicable federal and state laws.

A completed evaluation does not guarantee approval for an Emotional Support Animal letter. Recommendations are made only when supported by the clinical findings of the evaluation.

If an ESA letter is not clinically indicated, you will receive feedback regarding the decision and, when appropriate, recommendations for treatment or additional services.

***Insurance may cover the cost of the assessment, depending on your specific insurance plan. However, insurance does not cover the time and administrative services associated with evaluating, preparing, and issuing an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letter. These services are the client's financial responsibility.

Initial ESA Evaluation $250

Our most requested option, this comprehensive evaluation includes:

  • 60–90 minute clinical assessment 

  • Review of mental health history and current symptoms

  • Assessment of functional impairment

  • Evaluation of the therapeutic role of the emotional support animal

  • Clinical determination regarding ESA eligibility

  • Personalized ESA recommendation letter (when clinically appropriate)

  • One complimentary revision for landlord or housing-specific requirements within 30 days

Comprehensive ESA Evaluation with Record Review $375

Recommended for individuals with more complex clinical histories or when supporting documentation from previous providers is available.

This package includes:

  • Everything included in the Initial ESA Evaluation

  • Review of prior mental health records (when provided)

  • Coordination of clinical information

  • Additional documentation supporting the clinical recommendation when appropriate

ESA Letter Renewal / Update

$125

For existing clients who require an updated ESA letter.

Includes:

  • Brief follow-up evaluation

  • Review of current symptoms and functioning

  • Updated documentation when clinically appropriate

 

Additional Documentation

Starting at $35

Examples include:

  • Completion of landlord or housing-specific forms

  • College or university housing documentation

  • Additional copies of ESA documentation

  • Administrative paperwork requested after the initial evaluation

Fees vary depending on the complexity and time required.
